Roger Daltrey Knighted

Life is crazy. One day, you sing a song where you’re like, “Hope I die before I’m knighted in the king’s birthday honours list,” and then bam, decades later, you’re knighted in the king’s birthday honours list. As of yesterday, the Who frontman Roger Daltrey is now the Who frontman Sir Roger Daltrey.

As The Independent reports, the 81-year-old Roger Daltrey received knighthood at Windsor Castle today. He did the whole thing, getting down on his knees so that Prince William could tap him on the shoulder with a sword and name him a Knight Bachelor. The honor is intended as a recognition for his work with the Teenage Cancer Trust, as well as his general all-around rock stardom.

Daltrey was away on tour when he got the letter about his knighthood, and his wife kept it a secret from him until he returned. He tells the press, “It is an incredible honor. I was born in the Second World War and grew up in the streets in London, for a kid like me, achieving this, it’s a dream.”
