Samsung Reveals Galaxy Z TriFold With 200 MP Camera And Snapdragon 8 Elite

Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z TriFold, its first triple-folding smartphone, expanding its portfolio of foldable devices. The model resembles a larger Galaxy Z Fold 7, sharing many of the same specifications, including a triple rear camera with a 200 MP main sensor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, and Android 16 with One UI 8. According to Samsung’s TM Roh, the device aims to combine portability, high performance, and productivity in a single form factor, continuing the company’s exploration of new foldable formats.

The Galaxy Z TriFold competes directly with Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate series, one of the first to adopt a dual-hinge design. While both devices feature an expansive internal display, Samsung’s model includes an external screen and uses an inward-folding design. Samsung states that its chosen folding direction enhances durability by better protecting the internal panel. To prevent incorrect folding, the device issues alerts and vibrations whenever the user attempts to close it in the wrong order.

The hinge system is a key engineering focus. Samsung employs two hinges of different sizes supported by a dual-rail structure, aiming to ensure smooth folding and reduce gaps between panels. Materials such as titanium, Advanced Armor Aluminum, and a reinforced polymer with fiberglass and ceramic are used to increase durability while maintaining a slim profile. When opened, the device is 3.9 mm thick at its thinnest point, and 12.9 mm when folded, weighing 309 grams.

The main feature is the 10-inch LTPO Dynamic AMOLED 2X internal display with a 2160 × 1584 resolution and a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate. It offers 1,600 nits peak brightness and includes an additional impact-absorbing layer. A 6.5-inch external display provides up to 2,600 nits. The larger internal screen allows multitasking with up to three apps simultaneously and supports an independent DeX mode, turning the smartphone’s interface into a desktop-like environment.

Hardware specifications mirror those of the Galaxy Z Fold 7: 16 GB RAM, 512 GB or 1 TB storage, dual 10 MP front cameras, and a triple rear camera array with ultrawide and telephoto lenses. The device includes 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, stereo speakers, and IP48 certification. Its 5,600 mAh battery, divided into three cells, is the largest in any Galaxy Z device, though its 45 W wired and 15 W wireless charging rates are slower than Huawei’s.

Samsung will release the Galaxy Z TriFold first in South Korea on December 12, followed by select international markets, with pricing expected to exceed the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s US$2,000 launch price.
