I love an action RPG. Though I suck at math really bad, following the call of “number go up” while also having my reflexes tested is a blast. Unfortunately, games like Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2 have an online component that I can’t always keep up with. Fortunately, an upcoming game looks like it will bottle up some high fantasy action RPG goodness without requiring me to keep up with an online service or corral a bunch of friends.
Loulan: The Cursed Sand, from developer ChillyRoom, just got a reveal trailer today, showing off some epic combat and gorgeous environment design, all from a satisfying isometric camera perspective. No release date was provided, but the game will land on both PC and PS5 when it arrives. Check out the trailer here:
Sick, right? There were a few moments that I wanted to highlight in case they didn’t catch your eye too.
First, this moment in which the player character grabs a weapon of the enemy, in this case a massive boulder, to wield it against them demonstrates a cool level of interactivity that I’m hoping there’s more of:

I’m also digging how blocking incoming attacks seems to be a key feature. I like math in my combat, but I don’t like only relying on a numerical stat to defend myself.
Also, check out this…uh, I’m not quite sure what it is, but it’s certainly an example of some awesome enemy design:

The lack of a release window is a bummer. Well, in the meantime, it might be a good opportunity to brush up on the real-world history of the Loulan Kingdom, which the game is based on.
