Just a few weeks ago, twin sisters and past bandmates Katie and Allison Crutchfield unveiled Snocaps, their new band with MJ Lenderman and Brad Cook, and they surprise-released their deeply satisfying self-titled album. Snocaps have a very limited number of live shows coming up, and then Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman will head out on a bigger co-headlining tour next year. But Snocaps’ first-ever live performance wasn’t in front of the people who fought to get tickets to those few live shows. Instead, it was a one-song set on Tuesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show.
It should be a tall order, right? Snocaps weren’t just making their TV debut on last night’s Fallon. They were making their stage debut — their first time playing together as a band. But these people all know what the fuck they’re doing. They made it look easy. Snocaps played “Coast,” the opening song and de facto single from the Snocaps album, and they sounded incredible. Allison Crutchfield sings lead on that song, which I don’t think I realized. And when she and her sister join on on those chorus harmonies? Man, I tell you what, I was moved.
Another thing: MJ Lenderman on drums! That’s crazy! Snocaps had three guitarists up there onstage, and the premiere axe-wrecker of 2025 indie rock was not one of them. (There’s another guy in the live band, and I don’t know who it is. Help me out, comments section.) Also, Ariana Grande was the main guest on last night’s Fallon, so it’s fun to think about Grande getting into some kind of green-room conversation with the Crutchfields and/or Lenderman. That’s beside the point, though. The point is: Great performance. I wish it was longer. Watch it below.
Snocaps is out now on ANTI-.
