Australian hardcore band Speed – the band that really blew up when they had a sick flute solo on their track “The First Test” – is a little richer now because they made good music. Speed was awarded $80,000 AUD (roughly $52,000 USD) as a part of the New South Wales Music Prize.
Speed accepted the award on November 24 at the Museum Of Contemporary Art in Sydney, Australia, stating during their speed: “Respectfully, our culture has never been a game nor a competition. But we are honoured to receive this recognition and see this as acknowledgment of the values cultivated by the passionate souls around us.”
They continued: “In 2025, we have a whole new generation of amazing kids all over the country making Sydney and Australian hardcore the sickest it’s ever been. With that being said, this award belongs to them – the people around us who make it what it is – and we’ll take some time to think about the best way we can pay that forward to keep growing this the right way.”
Speed was up against DJ Ninajirachi, Rüfüs Du Sol, 3%, Barkaa, Kobie Dee, Onefour, Party Dozen, Shady Nasty, and rapper Vv Pete with collaborator Utility.
According to the New South Wales’ government website, the NSW Music Prize is a new annual prize delivered by Sound NSW, celebrating the rich creativity and contribution of NSW artists to the contemporary music sector.
