Atlanta singer Summer Walker is one of the biggest new R&B stars to emerge in recent years. She blew up with her triple platinum 2019 debut Over It, and then she followed it with 2021’s Still Over It. In the past four years, she’s been showing up on tons of other people’s records, and she’s released the very good 2023 EP Clear 2: Soft Life. For more than a year, she’s been building up to the release of Finally Over It, her third proper album and I guess the conclusion of the Over It trilogy. Now, Finally Over It is here. Finally.
Summer Walker presents Finally Over It as a double album, even though the whole thing could fit comfortably on one CD. The first half is supposed to be unflinching relationship storytelling, while the second half is about reflecting on yourself. It’s being presented as a full-on blockbuster with a ton of big-name guests, including Doja Cat, Anderson .Paak, GloRilla, Latto, Sexyy Red, Monaleo, Mariah The Scientist, Brent Faiyaz, 21 Savage, Bryson Tiller, and SAILORR. Teddy Swims is on it? And that song is good? It brings me no joy to report that Chris Brown is here, too.
The Finally Over It writing and production credits have a ton of big-names, too. The-Dream, Jeremih, Lil Yachty, Bryan Michael Cox, Terrace Martin, Nija Charles, and Nineteen85 are all involved. This record is being presented as a big event, and I think it’ll be received that way. Below, you can check out the new LP and Summer Walker’s new video for the single “FMT.”
Finally Over It is out now on LVRN/Interscope.
