This House Is Creaking is the brainchild of Chicago-based musicians Micah Miller and Ehmed Nauman. Their music sounds like it would chug a Celsius before a 3 a.m. A. G. Cook set while wearing a ratted sweater three-times too big for it with smeared eye-liner. That is to stay that This House Is Creaking lives somewhere between the moody winters of midwest emo and the exhilarating glitches of hyperpop. Today, This House Is Creaking released a new single “Something Else” that is equal parts absurd and sad.
Over muffled, syncopated drums and agitated guitars, “Something Else” opens with a plea for mediocrity: “Maybe I’m not that good/ What’s wrong with being just okay?” But the glum atmosphere evaporates quickly with a wet fart sound that creates a ripple of laughter. “Something Else” continues on a rocky terrain of introspection and electronic distorted spirals. It’s peculiar and playful.
“This is a song about accepting mediocrity in the face of failure, even when you cannot figure out why it is you’ve failed, and trying to fix things that seem to have broken without understanding how they broke in the first place,” This House Is Creaking said in a press release. “It’s a funny song we made with our friends Peter Schultze and Hunter Borowick from Tuff Sudz.”
