Not everyone in the crowd booed. Live feeds and videos from audience members showed some attendees clapping and cheering.

In November 2025, a rumor began to spread that the crowd at an NFL game between the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions had booed U.S. President Donald Trump as he spoke.

Social media was abuzz with videos of the supposed incident. An X user who posted one wrote, “I’ve never seen him get booed this much” and speculated that the U.S. public was turning on the president (archived):

The post garnered nearly 2 million views and 75,000 likes as of this writing. The same claim, with the same or other videos, appeared elsewhere on X, as well as Bluesky, Reddit, Instagram, TikTok, Threads and Facebook. In multiple videos of the alleged incident taken from different angles, booing was audible when Trump appeared on a large screen and when he spoke.

The claim was true. The publication Roll Call, which publishes a detailed daily schedule for Trump, showed he attended the game on Nov. 9, 2025. He arrived at the Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, where the game was taking place, at 5:15 p.m. At halftime, around 6 p.m., Trump administered the oath of enlistment for those joining the military. As he did that, many in the crowd booed, though some clapped and cheered.

Several reputable news organizations, including The Associated Press, picked up a live video feed that showed the scene in full. The footage from the feed showed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also was in attendance.

Trump’s words were barely audible over the jeering. The AP said in the caption that boos also occurred when he appeared on screen during the first half of the game. A video that used the same feed appeared on the Roll Call website with a transcript

Later, reputable image bank Getty Images shared a photograph of Trump administering the oath of enlistment.

Meanwhile, the White House’s YouTube channel released a compilation video of Trump attending the game and administering the oath of enlistment. Swelling orchestra music scored the video, which did not show the moment the crowd booed:

Snopes has covered other instances of Trump being booed at sporting events, including at the 2019 World Series and the 2025 Super Bowl.
