Grindmother – the project headed up by a 77-year-old great-grandmother turned grindcore singer that’s warmed our hearts over the years – played their final shows to sold-out crowds in Montreal and Toronto as part of the No Fear For Tomorrow Tour featuring Cattle Decapitation, Aborted, Frozen Soul and Tribal Gaze.
The final Grindmother shows featured former Arch Enemy vocalist Alissa White-Gluz alongside guest vocal appearances by Liz Selfish of Brat and Chelsea Marrow of Visitant. The shows also featured appearances from guitarist Topon Das and drummer Mathieu Vilandré of Fuck The Facts.
On the shows, Grindmother‘s son and longtime collaborator Rayny Forster expressed his thanks to Cattle Decapitation for adding them to the show, and to everyone involved: “We wanted her to have a proper farewell for the fans she loves more than anything,” said Forster back in July upon the announcement of the shows.
“We’re beyond thankful to Travis Ryan and Cattle Decapitation for the opportunity to bring her in front of such a large audience. And of course, to our fellow Canadian grindcore family in Fuck The Facts who have graciously accepted the call. This will be a great celebration.”
He added: “These will be her final live appearances, but it won’t be the last you’ll hear from us. We’re working on new music, and there’s a lot more to come.”
Grindmother first turned heads in 2015 with viral rehearsal videos and the single “Any Cost,” which eventually caught the attention of Ozzy Osbourne, who tweeted her performance to his millions of followers. In 2016, she released her debut album Age of Destruction and followed it with nearly 60 tour dates across 2017 and 2018. Grindmother fucking rules and nobody will ever tell me otherwise. All hail.
